Manage all your experience of accidents, nearmisses, non-conformities, deviations, observations and improvements in a web based information system
Without the ability to gain knowledge from the past, new accidents can not be prevented. When descisions on preventive measures shall be made, the correct background information and analyses must be at hand in order to make the right priorities.
In spite of that the ISM Code, like mostmanagement systems (ISPS, ISO, etc.) requires a systematic approach to the safety prevention work, it’s often hard to find a clear documented picture of the company’s safety performance.
Coorporation on a system that gives a clearer picture
For a period seahealth Denmark has been seeking the market for a system, which could function in an easy way with nearmiss.dk We have now joined a cooperation with the swedish firm IPSO, who has developed an information system configured to collect reports on accidents, near misses and non-conformities from the crew and ships to the company office ashore. The system is connected to the national nearmiss database.
How does the IRIS system work?
From the ship, the reports are sent via Internet (on-line) or by email (off-line) to the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) who is the ISM responsible officer in the company. The report is designed as an nearmiss form but may be adjusted to fit in to the company’s information structure.
The DPA administrates the reports through a validation process where the reports are communicated to other interesed parties in the company. Feedback to the ship is made with comments, desicions on corrective actions, safety alerts and lessons learned.
Reports relevant for nearmiss.dk are transferred deidentified to those systems. One company is able to compare the own experience with similiar events in the industry with help of the feedback from the national system given on every report. The DPA could also make their own searches on nearmiss.dk.
